complemetary colors are opposites on the color wheel. Red and Green are opposites, so they are complements. Complementary colors look very exciting next to one another.

Additional color schemes are evident in the plumage (feathers) of most types of parrots. Eclectus parrots also have light blue and dark blue under their wings. This is a monochromatic color scheme- one color with different values.

An analagous color scheme is when there are colors together that are neighbors on the color wheel such as greenish turquoise blue, bright royal blue, and blue violet indigo.
